Do you know how the cremation process works? If not, you're going to face an uphill battle when planning cremation services in Winooski, VT for a loved one. It's going to be difficult for you to understand what's happening, and that could ultimately make planning cremation services for a loved one so much more stressful than it would be otherwise. We're going to help you get the hang of cremations by breaking down the cremation process for you. Check out the steps that are involved with it below.

Step 1: The identification of a person's body

Before a funeral home can carry out a Winooski, VT cremation, they're going to have to make sure that they identify their body properly. If they don't do this, there will be a small chance that they could end up cremating the wrong person. It's why all funeral homes and crematories have identification processes in place that require them to double- and triple-check the ID of a person prior to putting them through the rest of the cremation process. It's also why they'll ask a family to sign off on a loved one's cremation before getting things going.

Step 2: The preparation of a person's body

Once a person's body has been properly identified, the next thing that a funeral home will do is put it through the preparation process. During this portion of a person's cremation, any and all metal objects will be removed from both the inside and outside of their body. Additionally, they will be put into whichever clothes their family wants, and they'll also be put into a combustible cremation container to make it easier to move their body into a cremation chamber. Some families will choose to place items like letters, photos, etc. into this container so that they can be cremated along with their loved one's body.

Step 3: The cremation of a person's body

After a person's body is all ready to go, it'll be transported into a cremation chamber so that their actual cremation can begin. This chamber will be capable of reaching temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit in some cases. It'll allow a funeral home to cremate a person's body within just a couple of hours at most. At the end of this part of the cremation process, all that will be left of a person will be their cremated remains.

Step 4: The processing of a person's remains

When a person's cremation is all finished, a funeral home will turn off their cremation chamber and allow it to cool. They'll then gather a person's remains and process them before placing them into a cremation urn. Processing a person's remains will involve taking them and grinding them up to make them all very small and uniform in size. It'll be the last step that will need to be taken before giving a person's remains back to their family.
