Milton - William E. Shafer Sr., 88, died Thursday March 29, 2018.
Bill was born on June 20, 1929 in Willimantic, CT. He was the son of Harley and Helen (Sledjeski) Shafer. At an early age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Japan during WWII.
Shortly after returning to the states, he married Eva Rayhall on October 14, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Willimantic, CT.
Together, they lived a very busy life, from owning two dairy farms, one in CT and one in Cornwall, grocery stores in Wardsboro, So. Londonderry and Jeffersonville, a motel in Morrisville, and clothing store and restaurant in Middlebury. They retired to Maine for 18 years, returning to VT in September.
Bill is survived by his wife, of over 69 years, Eva Shafer, his daughter Stephanie Adams and her husband Gordon, all of Milton, his son William Shafer Jr. of Middlebury and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild.
He was predeceased by his son Vincent Shafer and daughters Janette Shafer and Linda Roberts.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 3, 2018 from 10-11am with a funeral service held at 11am in the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton.
