Walter D. Scott Jr

June 15, 1940 — September 2, 2024

Walter D. Scott Jr., better known as "Don," passed away peacefully on September 2nd 2024 after a long battle with Dementia. He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Elaine Rose (Sherratt) Scott, who passed away in 2012 of Multiple Myeloma.

He is survived by their only child, Jennifer Scott Eames and son-in-law Stan Eames of Fort Myers, Florida and Standish, Maine. Walter is predeceased by his Mother Gertrude "Trudy" (Wiedman) Scott and Father Walter D. Scott Sr. of Melbourne, Florida.

Don is also survived by his sister Eleanore (Scott) Baker and brother-in-law Roger Baker of Rockledge, Florida, two nieces Joanne (Baker) Barney of Rockledge, FL and Cindy (Baker) Rigsby of W. Melbourne, FL, and nephew Daniel Laporte Sherratt of Canada, predeceased by nephew Eric Laporte Sherratt of Canada. Don also had a loving relationship with his cousins, John Burns, Sandra (Burns) Thomson of Virginia, Carol (Wiedman) Chumbley and Joyce (Wiedman) Kay of New Jersey.

Growing up in Maple Shade, New Jersey, Don was active with Boy Scouts, his local church and visiting the Jersey shore, specifically "Ship Bottom". After high school he was stationed at Treasure Island in California and served aboard several ships as an Electronic Technician in the Navy. He later worked for Westinghouse and RCA as a Manufacturing Engineer.

Don met the love of his life, Elaine Sherratt, in 1967 in Horseshoe Bay while visiting his parents' home in Bermuda. The couple were married in the fall of 1968. Don’s career eventually took them to Vermont, where he worked at Digital Equipment Corp. as a manufacturing engineer and later as a patent engineer.

He furthered his education by graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity College of Burlington, VT and later earned a Master of Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, NH.

Don, Elaine and Jennifer loved sailing on Lake Champlain in Vermont. They spent most weekends and holidays during the summer aboard their sailboat "Welcome Change". Don loved listening to records on his turntable, which included John Denver, Classical music, and Andrea Bocelli (who he saw in concert with Jennifer a few years ago). He was a member of the Green Mountain Barbershop Chorus for several years, located in Burlington Vermont and later in life he sang with The Sounds of Concord in Concord, Massachusetts.

His many accomplishments and loves include spending time at "The Shack", a family camp in Canada where Don and Elaine would relax and enjoy making it their Summer getaway.

He loved chocolate ice cream, his Jaguar convertible, his train display and sharing his travel adventures, including hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Much to his wife Elaine’s chagrin, he was also a card-carrying member of the "Naturist Society". Don spent his final years in Florida near Jennifer, who provided him with years of loving care and devotion to his happiness and well-being.

A burial and Memorial celebration will be in the town cemetery in Milton, Vermont June of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Dubin Center: 12685 New Brittany Blvd. Fort Myers, FL 33907
