Walter Bidwell

Walter Bidwell, a dedicated maintenance technician and a loving family man, passed away on December 19,2023. He was surrounded by his adoring family at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester. Walter's loss is deeply mourned by all who knew him.

Born on April 30, 1944, in Burlington, VT, Walter grew up and spent his life in Vermont. He started his  working career for the Town of Milton Road Department. Throughout most of his working years, he served as a maintenance technician for the Burlington Free Press . Then in his retirement he began working for Advanced Auto Parts and O'Reilly Auto Parts. Walter's commitment to his work was unwavering, and he was known for his exceptional skills and reliability.

Walter's interests were diverse, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his friends and family. He cherished every moment he had with them. Walter's love for his tractor was evident; it was a source of immense pride and happiness for him. Additionally, he had an impressive collection of various "stuff" that he amassed over the years. When an item was needed, he was thankful he had it in his collection!

Walter will be remembered as a devoted husband to his beloved wife Ella (Smith) Bidwell. Their love story was one of deep connection and unwavering support throughout their years together. Together they faced both joys and challenges with resilience. Walter will also be forever missed by his children: Philip Bidwell and his wife Tonya, Justin Bidwell and his partner Leann Supernault, and Erica Bidwell


As a grandfather, Walter leaves behind a lasting legacy through the memories shared with his grandchildren: Spencer Bidwell, Gavin Hathaway, Emma Bidwell, Makayla Lafountain, Jared Lafountain, Oliver Lambert Bidwell, Hannah Bidwell Alexia Murray, and Michael Boucher. Each grandchild held a special place in Walter's heart. He is also survived by his dog Moe.

Walter was fortunate to have shared beautiful relationships with his predeceased sister Ellsie Labelle and predeceased brother Richard Bidwell. He is predeceased by his best friend Victor "Butch" Trivento. 

A Celebration of Life to honor Walter will take place on December 22, 2023, at the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center located at 237 Route US-7, Milton, VT, 05468. The service will begin at 5:00 PM and conclude at 7:00 PM. This gathering will be an opportunity for all who knew him to come together and reminisce on the joyous moments they shared with Walter.

Walter bid farewell to this world with his family standing by his side, surrounded by their love and unwavering support. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Walter's memory to American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation. This act of kindness will be a testament to Walter's generous spirit and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

His memory will forever remain alive in our hearts as we cherish the time we had with him. As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember him with fondness and celebrate the remarkable life he lived. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
