Sandra Jean Gilbert

May 19, 1939 — November 16, 2021

It is with heavy heart that we share the passing of Sandra J. (Brisson) Gilbert of Milton, Vermont on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Sandy was born in Burlington on May 19, 1939, the only child of Irving and Addie Brisson. She attended Nazareth School and was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School, where she excelled in business courses, receiving typing and shorthand awards for speed and accuracy. On June 27, 1959 she married Lloyd Gilbert at St. Joseph's Church in Burlington, Vermont, and in 1966 they moved with their family to Milton. After graduation Sandy worked for the Immigration Naturalization service before taking time off to raise her family. While doing so Sandy was active as a CCD teacher, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and Weight Watcher lecturer with some classes over 100 members. After raising her family, Sandy went back to work as an Administrative Assistant at legal firms and other businesses, including the family real estate business Four Seasons Real Estate. She retired in 2001 from the University of Vermont Behavior Therapy Center. Sandy was always active in her church, serving in the choir, on the prayer chain, on the Parish Council, and as organist and choir director for over 30 years. She served as secretary for the Arrowhead Senior Center, where she used her skills to organize many successful events and programs including the expansion of the center. Sandy was a founding member of the Red Hatitudes Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and she was a fan of Golden Gloves boxing, even becoming a certified judge. Sandy had many creative talents, like knitting and crafts, and interests including shopping and sports. She loved watching her four grandsons play and talking about favorite teams, especially the Red Sox. Sandy is survived by her husband of 62 years Lloyd Gilbert, whose unending love, devotion, and care were successful in keeping her at home until her final sleep; son Greg and his wife Betty of Milton, Vermont and their sons Patrick and Nicholas of Indiana and Michigan; daughter Michelle Gardner, her husband Bruce, and their sons Brady and Brian of Foxborough, Massachusetts; cousins Robert LaMothe, Jill LaMothe, Michael LaMothe, John Brisson, and Carol Brisson Cram; brothers and sisters-in-law Donald LaCroix, Nancy Gilbert, Gordon and Peg Gilbert; their families; many cherished friends; and her kittycat companion for many years Molly. Sandy now joins her parents, her Aunt Elaine and Uncle Prosper, Cousin Jimmy, Aunt Pat and Uncle Ronald, Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Jean, Uncle Donnie and Aunt Faye, brothers-in-law Buddy and Lee, sisters-in-law Mae and Roberta, and many other family and friends she was missing. May her light and love comfort and inspire us. Visitation hours will be Sunday, November 21st from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Minors Funeral Home in Milton, Vermont.
