Ruth C. Martel, née Lloyd, of Georgia, passed away on October 12, 2026, at Northwestern Medical Center. She was born on April 14, 1963, in Newfoundland, Canada.
Ruth will be remembered as a woman who found joy in caring for others and in the simple pleasures that made a home and family feel warm and welcoming.
She was a graduate of Champlain Valley Union High School class of 1981, then attended Champlain College.
She worked as an administrative assistant for several companies, including Comcast Spotlight, the University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen, and Galleria Bassett. In each place she served, she brought her steady presence and dedication to her work.
Outside of work, Ruth embraced life with a generous spirit. She, in her younger years, enjoyed camping and fishing, and she loved riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. As life became more experienced, she was happiest in the company of those she loved, whether she was cooking, baking, making crafts, or sewing. She especially enjoyed time at her mother’s house for family gatherings and sitting beside the pool. Ruth was known for making the big holiday meals and for the happiness she found in spending time with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured by her family.
Above all, Ruth’s life was centered on family. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Timothy Martel, whose love and companionship were an important part of her life. She also leaves her children, Timothy James Martel and his wife, Ashley, and Rachel Martel-Preslar, her grandchildren Caleb, Tabitha, Carley and Daniel. She is further survived by her siblings, Cyril Lloyd, Kathy Hullsman, Robert Lloyd Jr. and his partner, Tammy, and Renee Lafountain, nieces, nephews and two step-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the love, laughter, and family traditions Ruth held so dear.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Drew, and her father, Robert Lloyd, Sr.
Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, her care for her family, and the joy she brought to gatherings large and small will remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Ruth on Saturday November 28th, 2026 at 2:00PM at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 1063 Prim Rd Colchester, VT. She will be interred in the church memorial garden immediately following the service.
