Robert Kenneth Swan

August 2, 1925 — December 24, 2021

Robert K. Swan, 96, passed away peacefully at Mansfield Place in Essex, VT on December 24, 2021 with the comfort of his family and hospice. Bob was born in Milton, VT on August 2, 1925 to Robert Riley Swan and Glenna (Shore) Swan. He was a graduate of Milton High School and Burlington Business College. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII and returned to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have served aboard Destroyers in both tours of duty. He worked for the Federal Aviation Agency and retired in 1984. Bob married the love of his life, Alice M. Desranleau, on 8/26/1950 and remained lovingly devoted to each other until her passing in 2010. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Boccia (George) of Hallowell, ME; son David Swan (Joanne) of Holland, VT; and daughter Amy Drury (Doug Barnard) of Essex, VT; Grandchildren Sara Swan Blankinship (Benjamin) of Oakland, CA; Allison Champagne (Dana) of Gorham, ME; Emily Boccia of Lansing, MI; Lesley Drury (Chris Vargo) of Essex, VT; and Lindsey Drury (Nick Loth) of Southington, CT. In addition, Bob leaves behind his Great Grandchildren Ben Champagne, Lucine Blankinship, Joci Amain and Charlotte, Francesca & Alice Vargo. For many years Bob enjoyed bowling at Yankee Lanes in several leagues, making lifelong friendships along the way. His biggest passion though, was golf. He spent over 55 years hitting the links, at his favorite spot, Williston Country Club. He was the oldest continuous member. Bob was an avid reader throughout his life. He was always eager to study the "what, where, when, why and how" while embracing history, science, sports & trivia. He was a good man who led a life of sharing by example. Honestly and loyalty with, and for, his family were very important to him. He inspired a few mottos along the way, being: "We "try harder" and "Always remain curious". Bob will be missed immensely for his keen wit, wisdom, objectiveness, and humble presence through recent days spent by his side. It's with gratitude Dearest Dad, Grampie, that we will live on accompanied by your spirit. A special thanks to Mansfield Place for their amazing staff who paid such loving attention to Bob during his recent years spent there. Much gratitude to UVM Health and Hospice as they helped him finish his journey. It was his request for a simple interment ceremony for the immediate family. Arrangements are in the care of Minor Funeral Home, Milton, VT.
