Robert J. Lemons, Sr.

Robert was born on November 6, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland a son of Edith Ritchie and Henry Lemons.

He married Caroline Way on September 27th, 1986 in Milton.

Robert was a soldier in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam, and stationed all over the world. Some of his awards include: Military Merit and two Bronze Stars. Upon his retirement from the Army, he was employed at IBM where he met his wife Caroline. Once moved to Milton together he became very active in the community. He was awarded Milton Independents first Living Treasure Award, for service within his community. He became a school bus driver, and volunteered his time for the Milton Family Community Center in many ways including starting the “Santa Bus” toy drive for the holidays and driving the bus on the Teen Friday summer day trips. He would do anything and everything he could for the youth. Community & family were the center of Bob’s life. He was a very beloved husband, father, and Pépére whom will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by: his wife Caroline; his children, Michelle Norton and her husband Adam of Colchester, Jennifer Howard and her husband Timothy of Fairfax, Robert Joseph Lemons, Jr and his wife Debbie of Texas, Patric Lemons of Burlington, Diana Lynn Varin and Carrie Spear; his grandchildren, Kaylee Gallagher, Nicole Norton, Leah Norton, Bella Norton and Jayce Norton, Kelsey Howard, Kristin Lemons, Justin Lemons, McKenna Lemons and Aydan Lemons; his sister in law Mary Way of Williston and many dear nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Edith Lemons, his siblings, Marie Maynard, Wilma Lemons, Jerry Lemons, Tom Lemons, and Larry Lemons. 

The family wishes to thank UVM Home & Hospice Care, especially Julie, Sandra, Ezra and Sage. They would also like to thank Vicki Tobin for all of their help with care in Bob’s final days.


A committal service will take place in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph on August 11th, 2023 at 9:00am.
