Richard A. Watson, 86, of Hobe Sound, FL, and formerly of Colchester, VT, passed away on August 4th, 2024, peacefully at Solaris Senior Living in Stuart, FL after multiple health issues the past year.
Richard was born on August 28th, 1937, in Tyngsboro, MA, the son of Thomas Wendell and Ethel Watson. He was a proud Marine in Washington, D.C. This is where he met his wife Shirley, also a Marine, to whom he was married for over 62 years.
After being honorably discharged, they relocated to Vermont where they built their home and renovated many others. They adopted and raised James in 1966 and Richard in 1968. Together the speat many years supporting the boys’ sports and later, stock car racing.
Richard worked most of his life in the glass business but also excelled in home remodeling, and automative work in his free time with Shirley. Together Richard and Shirley enjoyed getting together with friends and relatives to play cards, marbles, and bowling.
A husband, father, grandparent, and friend to all that know him.
He is survived by his brother, Doug; sons, James and Richard; daughter-in-law Christine; grandkids, Ashley, James Tony and great-grandson Tyler.
Richard was predeceased by Shirley; his brother, Tom; sister, Priscilla; and parents Thomas and Ethel Wendell.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus.
Richard was cremated and will return to his beloved Vermont for a graveside ceremony to be held on Friday, September 10th, at 11am in St. Ann’s Cemetery, on Middle Road in Milton, VT.
