Richard Maurice Poquette, a man whose life was as rich and varied as the stories he loved to share, passed away on May 10, 2026, at his residence after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 15, 1942, in Burlington, Vermont, Richard's journey through life was marked by dedication, humor, and a heart that touched everyone he met.

Richard began his professional career as a TV repairman, a foundation that led him into a long and distinguished tenure at IBM where he served in various capacities for over 30 years. His commitment to continual learning was exemplified by his completion of a certificate program from Central Georgia Technical College. Yet, beyond his technical skills and career accomplishments, Richard was renowned for his kindness, quick wit, and a deep sense of humor that endeared him to family and friends alike. A true Islander for most of his life, he moved to Milton eight years ago.

Known for his warm and outgoing nature yet occasionally reserved moments, Richard had a unique way of connecting with people. His usual answer to the common greeting "How are you?" was the ever-cheerful "Almost perfect," and when asked how he was feeling, he’d respond with a playful “with my fingers,” remarks that captured his spirit and love for life. Among friends and family, he was affectionately said to have a “PhD in Fishing,” a nod to his passion and expertise in the sport.

Richard’s interests were eclectic and heartfelt. He cherished boating and fishing, enjoyed war and Western movies, and was an avid player of cribbage. He found great joy in woodworking, hunting, and spending time at his beloved deer camp. One of his greatest pleasures was camping with his wife, Frances, accompanied by meals out—especially their frequent visits to Applebee’s—and visiting the Hub. Memorable moments included their history road trips, with their adventure to Gettysburg standing out as a highlight that remains etched in the memories of those who shared it.

He leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy. His devoted wife, Frances Poquette, stood by his side through many seasons of life. His daughter, Amanda Poquette-Pariseau, and her partner Michael Gardner provide a continuing source of love and comfort. Richard was also a cherished stepfather to Missy Munro and her partner Doug, Melody Sweet and her husband Daryll, as well as Christopher Munro and his partner Tracy. Among his greatest joys were his grandchildren—Dacota Pratt-Pariseau, Tyler Pariseau, and Hannah Pariseau, many step grandchildren and several beloved great-grandchildren who brought light into his later years. He is also survived by his beloved fur baby Bella.

Richard's siblings who continue to honor his memory include Joyce Pudding and her husband Hank, Carol Collins and her husband Ronald, and Nancy Cook. He joins in eternal rest his beloved parents, Marjorie and Clifford Poquette, and his sisters Shirley Conger and Virginia Poquette and his daughter Veronica Poquette.

Richard Maurice Poquette’s legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and devotion. He was a kind soul with a big heart and a great spirit, forever remembered for his sharp wit, generous nature, and the love he shared so freely. Though he has departed this world, his memory will live on in the hearts and stories of all who had the privilege to know him. His journey may have ended, but the imprint of his life remains immeasurable—a testament to a life well-lived and deeply loved.
