Ramon Joseph Astillero Sr of Jericho, VT, passed away at home on March 18, 2024. Ray was born in Philadelphia PA on August 14, 1949 to Ambrocio and Margaret Astillero, the second of eight children. 

 

Ray started working for IBM in Manassas VA, then moved with IBM to Vermont. There he met Brenda and they married in 1978. Ray worked 30 years for IBM as a maintenance technician, department manager, and facilities tech. Ray was also in the Army / Army National Guard, mostly in the 131st Engineer Company and Public Affairs, retiring as a Major. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. 

 

Ray enjoyed fishing, woodworking, photography, and spending time with family. Pop loved spending time with his grandkids, and truly enjoyed every moment he had with them.

Ray loved his time with The Guys: Tippy and Lisa, George and Barb, Donny, Brian, and Mike. He really cherished his time with them, especially at the sugarhouse.

 

He is survived by his wife Brenda Astillero, children Martina Astillero (Chris Safford) and Ramon (Nichol) Astillero Jr; grandchildren Tiana Valyou, Paige Safford, and Gwendolyn Astillero. He is also survived by Angela (Bryan) Baldwin-Freeman, Chris Baldwin, and two great grandchildren. His siblings Maria, Steve, Linda, Rafael, and Margaret; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrocio and Margaret Astillero, and his brothers Ambrocio Jr and William.


Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on March 26th,2024 from 5pm to 7pm at Minor Funeral Home, Mass of Christian Burial March 27th,2024 at 11am at St. Mary’s Church in Cambridge. His family would like to thank the awesome nurses of Miller 5, and the wonderful folks of UVM Home Health & Hospice.
