Maurice “Joe” Phenix, 83, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in South Burlington, Vermont.
Joe was born on April 22, 1942, to Alcadas and Olive May (Bessette) Phenix. He was a proud graduate of Johnson State University and always treasured his time there, never parting with his beloved blue class ring. Joe also took great pride in his service to our country, having served in the United States Navy and deployed overseas during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Joe’s deep Catholic faith was the guiding force throughout his life, second only to the love he had for his devoted wife, Helen, and their children. In his free time, Joe enjoyed working with his hands, crafting beautiful wooden furniture and keepsakes, and tending to his garden with care and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Phenix; his children, Kim (Richard) Flint of Highgate, Joe (Karen) Phenix of St. Albans Bay, and Shawn Fiske of Enosburg, his step children Karl and his wife Lisa Deavitt of Colchester, Keith and his wife Amy Deavitt of South Burlington, Kathy Griffin and her husband Bill of North Carolina, and Karen Moore of North Carolina, several grandchildren and many great grandchildren; his brother, Robert, and his late wife Denise, Phenix of Milton; his special cousins, Danny (Penny) Nichols of Fairfax and Ruth Murray of St. Albans, along with many other family members and friends.
