Marilyn Coffin Barnes, 93, of Milton, died on October 6, 2026, at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home.
Born on April 12, 1933, in Randolph, Vermont, Marilyn was the daughter of Glenn Coffin and Edna Wheeler. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1951 and earned her Batchelor’s degree at Castleton State College in 1956. Marilyn went on to teach elementary and middle school for several years in Tunbridge, Vermont, Sharon, Vermont, and Florida. She married Robert Barnes on June 11, 1967.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, Corey and Deron Barnes both of Grand Isle, her sister Sandra MacDougall and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Marlene Wilson, and husband Robert.
Marilyn enjoyed knitting, reading, camping and genealogy. She was particularly fond of the trip she and Robert took to Alaska for six weeks during the summer of 1996, staying in a pop-up camper. They drove there through Canada and on the way back through the U.S. upper Midwest. In the province of Manitoba, they visited a distant family member. Marilyn has several relatives in Canada as her mother was originally from Canada before earning dual citizenship. She was proud of her Canadian heritage.
The family wishes to thank Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Marilyn, especially in the final days of her life.
A graveyard service will be held on October 16th, at 12:00 PM at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph, VT with Pastor Steve Seipke officiating.
