Kevin John Poirier, a devoted firefighter, cherished family man, and friend to countless individuals, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 64, after a short but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 15, 1960, in Burlington, Vermont, Kevin's life was a tapestry woven with service, laughter, and deep bonds of love.

Kevin's remarkable journey in the fire service began as an auxiliary member of the Burlington Fire Department. In 1997, he proudly became a part of the Milton Fire Department, joining alongside his nephew. Over the years, he responded to countless calls for assistance, dedicating himself tirelessly to the protection and safety of his community. His hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed, and he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming an Engineer responsible for apparatus oversight and training fellow members on its operations. It brought him immense joy to share his extensive knowledge with others.

As he advanced to the position of fire lieutenant, Kevin's leadership qualities shone brightly. He was well-known for prioritizing the safety of his team, remaining calm and composed in high-pressure situations, earning him the admiration and trust of those who worked alongside him. Beyond the fireground, Kevin was a mentor to younger members of the fire service, always ready to provide guidance, support, and encouragement. His passion for nurturing future generations of firefighters was a hallmark of his character.

One of Kevin's greatest joys was participating in the annual Vermont State firefighter games. To him, these events transcended competition; they united the firefighting community and fostered bonds among families. He cherished the opportunity to connect with younger members and instill in them the same love for service that motivated him throughout his career. Kevin was not only known as a firefighter, although that was his main “identity” he was employed for over 35 years, D. Richards Automotive in Colchester. He was the general manager there for many years.

In addition to his extraordinary professional achievements, Kevin will be remembered for the loving family he built. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Kimberly Poirier, who stood by his side through every moment. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Kaitlyn Poirier and Cameron Poirier, who brought him immense pride. Cameron's fiancée, Cassie Gordon, added to the family’s joy, and Kevin's heart swelled with love for his grandchildren, Carter, Alexis, and Chase Poirier.

Kevin's legacy also includes his special nephew, Chief Chris Poirier, along with his siblings, Karl, Keith, and Kenneth Poirier, and his sisters-in-law, Robin Bagdon and Tanya Allard. He had many nieces and nephews who will carry forward the stories and laughter he shared with them.

Kevin was known for his infectious personality and comedic spirit. Christmas was his favorite holiday, a time when he would dress as Santa Claus to deliver Christmas pajamas, a heartwarming tradition he embraced after the passing of his father-in-law. He found joy in simple pleasures: working on cars, hunting for the elusive white-tailed deer, spending cherished moments at camp with family and friends, and enjoying days gone by fishing.

Though Kevin has departed from this world, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered with fondness, respect, and love, as a remarkable man whose vast contributions to his community and family will never fade.
