Kenneth Raymond Freer, born on June 19, 1936, in Buffalo, New York, passed away on June 3, 2026, at Copley Hospital. He lived in Morrisville, Vermont, for many years and was known for a lifetime of hard work, dedication, and service to his community. Kenneth began a long career in public service with the United States Army and the Post Office before joining the Border Patrol, where he served from 1968 to 1972. He later moved to Vermont to continue his work in immigration services, remaining in that field until his retirement. After retiring, Kenneth worked for many years in the records department at Dow Chemical in Morrisville. Even beyond his formal careers, he was well known in the community for mowing lawns and rototilling gardens for local residents, always willing to lend a hand. Kenneth will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his years of public service, and his dedication to his country. He was also a prolific writer, often publishing stories in local papers such as The Green Mountain Trading Post. Writing was one of his great passions, and in his later years he published well over 200 stories.
He leaves behind his daughter, Marie Gaudette, and her husband, Vance; his son, Mark Caylor, and his wife, April, of Pennsylvania; and his daughter, Priscilla Beaulieu, of Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joseph Beaulieu, Stephen Beaulieu, Justin Beaulieu, Kenneth Campbell, Avery Gaudette and his wife, Emily, Alex Gaudette and his wife, Camie, Paul Gibson, Blake Caylor, and Chelsey Tami and her husband, Bob. His nephew, Rich Freer, and his wife, Janet, of New York. He leaves behind his friend and companion Marilyn Emery as well.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vera Louise Freer, who passed away in June 2020 after battling Lewy body dementia.
Ken graduated from Tonawanda High School in New York in 1954, where he was voted “Most Athletic.” He was co-captain of his basketball team and was also an outstanding football and track athlete.
Ken beat prostate cancer in 2025 and remained a very independent man until his recent battle with lung effusion.
He will be remembered for his strength and convictions. He was impossible to beat at playing HORSE and Cribbage and he enjoyed competitive play.
While he will be greatly missed by his family and friends, they take comfort in knowing that he had accepted Jesus as his Lord and that he is now with Him in heaven.
