Joyce Godin Hemenway (September 19, 1936 – April 12, 2026) and Hubert Marshall Hemenway (May 6, 1932 – May 26, 2010) are lovingly remembered by their family and friends. Though they passed years apart, their lives were deeply intertwined, and their legacy continues through those who knew and loved them.
Joyce was born on September 19, 1936, the daughter of Forrest and Ruth Godin. She graduated from Lamoille Central Academy in Hyde Park, Vermont.
Joyce had a beautiful spirit-loving, kind, and was full of life. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with others, making everyone feel welcome and creating warmth and happiness wherever she went.
Her love of music played a special role in her life; it was through music that she met her husband, Hubert Hemenway.
Hubert was born on May 6, 1932, son of Robert and Ada Hemenway. He graduated from Cambridge High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed in Waterville, Vt and later worked at Bausch and Lomb in Burlington, Vt. He Enjoyed his later years driving bus for Waterville Elementary and Lamoille Union High School, where he was known for his friendly demeanor with students.
Hubert was a quiet man with integrity and kindness; however, on stage another side of him emerged. He was a talented musician who was able to pick up any string instrument and play. As an emcee of many social gatherings, variety shows- he was truly a showman.
Together, Joyce and Hubert built a life rooted in love, faith, music, dedication, and family. They were married on May 4, 1957. Joyce could often be found tending her gardens or preparing delicious wholesome meals for those she loved. She proudly passed down her bread-making skills to her family, leaving a legacy in both tradition and love. Hubert and Joyce were dedicated grandparents. They were deeply involved in the daily lives of their grandchildren, creating a nurturing and joyful environment. The family feels blessed they played such a central role in their upbringing, and they will cherish the memories and traditions passed down. Joyce embraced life fully and found goodness in each day. Even after suffering a stroke in 2012, she showed strength and determination, working hard to remain independent in her home.
Hubert was instrumental in the family sugaring tradition, passing down knowledge from his grandfather and father to his son-in-law and grandsons. As evening fell, you could find him in his music room, often with Joyce rehearsing. Their harmony was as close as their relationship. Together Hubert and Joyce played in bands, taught Sunday school and was known for the Country Neighborhood Shows, with the help of their friends they organized variety shows to benefit the Cancer Society and American Heart Association, as well as many local causes.
Survived by their three daughters, Malo Lamb, Loralie Adams and Mary Hogan and son-in-law, Matthew Hogan; grandchildren, Justin (Jocelyn) Lamb, Jessica (Jeremiah) Phillips, Torri Lamb, Erica (Marshall) Coats, Dekota (Bradley) Roberge, Skyler (Emma) Adams, Paul (Alexandra) Hogan, and Brendon Hogan; and great-grandchildren, Kirra, Karson, Talan, Justice, Kashton, Caruso, and great-grandson to be born in June. Joyce’s brother, Reginald (Carol) Godin and her special friend, Juanita Cutting, and her beloved dog, Molly.
Predeceased by their parents; son-in-law, Bruce Lamb and Lloyd Adams, Joyce’s brothers, Lawrence, Calvin, Phillip, and Roger Godin, Hubert’s brother Maurice Hemenway.
At their request there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lamoille Area Cancer Network, Lamoille Home Health, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in their memory.
Hubert and Joyce will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved them.
