Joseph John Mayercak, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on November 20, 2025, in Burlington, Vermont, at the age of 93, after a period of declining health. Born on August 13, 1932, in New York City, Joseph lived a life enriched by his passions.
An esteemed engineer, Joseph devoted a significant part of his career to the Forestal Research Center in Princeton, New Jersey, as well as the City Institute of Technology in New York City. His dedication to his work and his commitment to innovation left a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Joseph's proudest moments came in the form of family. He was a loving father to his daughters, Susan Gruskos and Lorraine Mayercak, with whom he shared cherished memories. An avid pilot, he would occasionally fly his daughters and spend afternoons with them, creating bonds that would last a lifetime. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Theresa Gruskos, Philip Palma, and Heather Donnell, and his great-grandchild, Cassidy Palma.
Joseph's quiet demeanor gave a deep passion for life. An introvert at heart, he found tranquility around horses, particularly his beloved Jetstar and Dark Thunder. His love for these majestic animals was matched only by his enjoyment of singing and taking photographs, revealing a depth of spirit that those close to him treasured.
He earned an associate's degree in engineering from Princeton University, a testament to his curiosity and commitment to learning. Despite his achievements, Joseph remained humble and grounded, drawing joy from the simple pleasures he encountered along his journey.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Mlinarcik and John Mayercak, who undoubtedly looked on with pride at the remarkable person he became.
His family invites all those whose lives were touched by Joseph to celebrate his life at a Mass to be held on December 4th, 2025, at St. Ann Church in Milton, Vermont, starting at 11:00 AM, with a service concluding at 12:00 PM.
Although he is no longer with us, the legacy of Joseph John Mayercak endures through the love he fostered and the memories he leaves behind. His gentle spirit and enduring strength will be missed but will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
