John Arthur Bean, 75, of Lowell, Vermont, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2025. Born on November 21, 1949, in Burlington, Vermont, John lived a life defined by simplicity, love for nature, and deep devotion to his family and country. John’s quiet strength, caring spirit, and hearty sense of humor touched the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to know him. He approached life with determination, compassion, and an unshakable loyalty to those he loved most.

John proudly served his country as a member of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, an experience that shaped much of his character and instilled in him the values of honor and perseverance. Following his service, John returned to the natural beauty of Vermont, where he found profound peace in the outdoors.

An avid outdoorsman, John cherished time spent hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking and camping. His connection to nature was genuine and enduring, as was his attachment to his home in Lowell, where he found solace and joy in the company of his dogs and the beauty surrounding him. Those who visited him there recall a man wholly at home in the wilderness—content by a fire, a gentle smile on his face, sharing stories or quiet moments on his cherished homestead.

John found his greatest joy in his family and those he cared for. He was deeply proud of his children and their families, Michelle Bean and her partner, Jamie Langevin, Heather Bean and her Husband Jared Merchant, Jabez Bean and his fiancé April, their children and grandchildren, Michelle Blondin and her two girls, Marah and Mallorie. John adored his grandchildren, Ava and Aiden Merchant, who brought light and laughter into his days. He is also survived by his loving partner, Julie Robidoux and his brother, Bruce Bean and Lisa Bean

John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Janet Bean, and his brothers Gary and David Bean. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with them, surrounded by the peace he so valued.

Those who knew John will remember his humor and warmth, the way he lived life on his own terms, and his unbreakable bond with the people and places he loved. Though he preferred privacy, his heart was expansive, and his door—and his heart—were always open to those in need.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date to be determined, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life.

John’s spirit and love for life will remain etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy will forever live on through his family and the memories they shared with him.

“Dad, the day you left and gained your wings my heart just broke in two.
I wish you could have stayed with me, but Heaven needed you.
You left me with the memories, and I love you dearly still.
No matter how much time goes by, you know I always will.
You were a very special person, with kindness in your heart.
And the love we had together grows stronger now we’re apart.
I know I cannot bring you back, although I wish it every day.
But a piece of me went with you the day you went away.”
