Harold Eastman, 98, passed away peacefully at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington on February 24th, 2026. Born on November 5th, 1928, he was the son of Milo and Freda Eastman.
Harold’s life was spent working hard for his family, serving our country as a Marine during the end of World War II and the Korean War, and spending his free time teaching others the beautiful craft of stained glass making. He was a graduate of Woodsville High School in New Hampshire, where he met the love of his life, Janet Hazlett. They were married on July 3rd, 1949.
Together, they traveled the country, visiting 48 of the 50 states, unfortunately never making it to Alaska or North Dakota before Janet passed away. Harold spent years working as a maintenance engineer at a bowling alley before settling into the remainder of his career at IBM. If Harold wasn’t at the office or working on his current stained-glass piece, he could likely be found searching for a new antique car or catching a NASCAR race, especially if Chase Elliott or Bubba Wallace were competing.
He is survived by his children, Sharon Bombard, Michael Eastman, and Susan McLaughlin; his son-in-law, Rick Downer; his longtime neighbor and friend, Dottie Burns; 6 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family members and friends.
Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janet Eastman; his parents, Milo and Freda Eastman; his brothers, Donald Eastman and Roger Eastman; and his son-in-law, Arnold Bombard.
A committal service at Lakeview Cemetery will be held in the spring and announced at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the wonderful staff at the Vermont Veterans Home for making Harold’s last 8 months as comfortable as possible.
