Greta Olney, a spirited and strong-willed soul, passed away peacefully at her home in Georgia on May 13, 2025. Born on August 10, 1932, in Williston, Greta was a beacon of resilience and determination throughout her life, often affectionately referred to as "THE BOSS" by those closest to her.
For many years, Greta joyfully dedicated herself as a manager at Kalil Grocery Store, leaving an indelible mark on both her coworkers and customers alike. Her infectious laughter and feisty personality brightened the days of everyone around her. Whether she was strategizing her next bingo game or reveling in the thrills of gambling, Greta's love for life was evident. She cherished moments spent with family, often sharing her excitement over her escapades to the casinos, particularly on her memorable 80th birthday trip to Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.
Greta's greatest pride, however, came from her beloved family. She is survived by her children, Ralph C. Olney and his partner Carol, Wanda Marvin, and Robin Simpson, who will forever hold dear the warmth and wisdom she imparted. Her grandchildren Annie, Sierra, Randy, Greta, Vikki, Ericca, Chantel, and Amber, along with many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were fortunate to know her compassionate spirit.
Greta was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 72 years, Ralph Olney, her son Dexter, her parents, Clifford Begins and Dorothy Vanderhoof, and all of her siblings, who welcomed her with open arms in the hereafter.
While her vibrant presence will be deeply missed, the memories of Greta's fierce love, hearty laughter, and adventurous spirit will remain a guiding light for those who knew her. A funeral service will be held to honor her remarkable life on May 21, 2025, at 11 AM in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington, VT.
In celebrating Greta, let us remember her feisty spirit and the joy she brought into our lives, carving out moments of happiness that will endure in our hearts forever.
