Obituary of Fr. Thomas Duncan Nadeau


Grand Isle - Father Thomas Duncan Nadeau, 80, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Plano, Texas.
Father Tom was born on April 21, 1940 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Elmer and Mary Ann (Kennedy) Nadeau. Tom married Pauline Marie Ward on November 26,1964. They eventually settled in Milton, Vermont where they raised their family.
Tom worked his earlier career as the Administrator of the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vermont. He then became the Director of Finance and Planning of the Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vermont in 1979. In 1983 he was the Business Manager for the Milton School District. He then went on to work as the Director of Administration and Support Services for the Northlands Job Corp in 1985. In 1995 he transferred to the Cassadaga Job Corps in Cassadaga New York.

In September of 2000 Tom lost his beloved wife to cancer and was encouraged to become a deacon by Father Lamotte of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton, Vermont. Always interested in the Catholic faith, Tom was drawn to the priesthood, studied at the Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Connecticut. He also took classes at the University of Vermont and received his Associates Degree from Champlain College. In addition, he received his bachelor's degree from the Devine Word Seminary in New Jersey and his master's degree in Theology from Holy Apostles College before being ordained in 2005.

Father Tom served the St. Mark Parish in Burlington, Vermont and the Church of Nativity in Swanton, Vermont prior to being assigned in 2015 to the Rose of Lima Parish in South Hero; the St. Joseph Parish in Grand Isle; St. Joseph Mission, in Isle La Motte; and the St. Amadeus Parish, Alburgh Vermont.

He is survived by his sons Mark Nadeau and his wife Laurie of Forney, Texas and Matthew Nadeau and his wife Amy of Milton, Vermont. His grandchildren Mark, Sarah and Michael Nadeau of Essex, Vermont and his three great grandchildren Amelia, Michael, and McKenzie.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 4-7pm at the Minor Funeral Home in Milton, Vermont. Prayers will be offered by Fr. Feltz at 7pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton
Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in So. Burlington, Vermont.
