November 2, 1951 — April 23, 2024

Essex

Eva Curtis Clough, aged 72, of Essex, VT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23rd at her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born on November 2, 1951, in St. Albans, VT to Asa and Eva Curtis, Eva was the youngest daughter and third youngest child in the family. She graduated from Enburg Falls High School and later began her career at the New England Telephone Company where she met her beloved husband David Clough. Their union took place on October 25, 1975, and together they raised four children.

Eva was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Over the years, she worked at two local daycares before joining Essex Elementary School as a paraeducator for a remarkable 17 years until her retirement. She actively participated in Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader and Co-Director at Twin Hills Girl Scout Camp during summers.

Proudly associated with Brigham Academy in Bakersfield, VT, Eva served as the President of the Brigham Academy Association for several years. She dedicated 25 years to the Essex Community Historical Society's Board of Directors where she held leadership roles including Treasurer and President for the last 13 years. Eva played a vital role in various community projects such as the Fort Ethan Allen Water Tower Restoration Project and research efforts to identify Civil War Soldiers for the Essex Junction Memorial Park.
Eva conducted interviews of long time Essex residents, and documented the history of the town and people for the museum. She collected much memorabilia for the Essex Community Historical Society, such as the Essex Toy Farm. Eva looked forward to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Sing Along, as well as tours with the Essex Elementary School 1st grade students.

Eva's interests included reading, crocheting, antiquing, and genealogy research for both her and David's families. She embarked on numerous journeys with her sister Patricia across Vermont and beyond to explore cemeteries, libraries, and town offices in pursuit of family history documentation.

Eva is survived by her children Felecia Abair and her husband Michael of Milford NH, Petrina Clough of Fort Fairfield ME, Brian Clough of Essex VT and Cassandra Clough of Fort Fairfield ME, her grandchildren Jay and Jesse Clough and Stephen and Madelyn Abair, and her siblings Tillie Jackson and husband Bill, Addie Salls, Beverly Stevenson, Barbara Giuliani and her husband Joe, David Curtis and his wife Noreen and Asa Curtis, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and countless dear friends.
