Donald Leo LeGrand

July 13, 1935 — June 17, 2021

Donald Leo LeGrand had his wish granted to die at home on June 17th, 2021 with his loving wife Jan next to him. Don was born in Georgia, Vt on July 13th, 1935. He was in the first generation of LeGrands to be born in Vermont and not Canada. Donald graduated from Cathedral High School in 1954. He attended St. Michael's college and served in the Vermont National Guard for 13 years and was very proud of his time served. In October of 1957 he married the former Janet R. Kinney from New York. Don was one of the original 10 hires at IBM in Essex Jct. He made many good friends during his 35 years with the company and was thankful for the memories made. IBM provided him the opportunity to travel to places he would not have had a chance to go. It afforded him and his wife Jan the luxury of having a one income family. Jan stayed home and worked hard at being a great mother to their 5 children, a supportive and caring wife and running the business of home and family with finesse. Don worked many shifts at IBM but when he worked 2nd shift, it afforded him the ability to work during the day building and/or rehabbing our family homes. Dad was very devoted to his family and he loved us beyond measure. Don was an accomplished carpenter, plumber and electrician. A lot of these skills were passed on to his children. He was happiest when he was on his tractor or using his multitude of tools. He had the capability to fix or repair just about anything. Don will be remembered for his wit and incredible sense of humor. He was a master of practical jokes. Don was also a devout Roman Catholic which led him to be very involved in his local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud to be involved with the Milton Vermont Council and helped to grow it into the large council that it is today. For 12 years he was a volunteer at Northwestern Medical Center where he met a whole new group of friends to socialize with, and he felt rewarded while serving his community. Don leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Jan of 64 years, his son Paul and wife Donna Scata of Wheelock, VT. His daughters Donna and Lisa, both of St. Albans, son Peter of Los Angeles, CA and son Andrew and his wife Anna of Bentonville, Arkansas. He also leaves 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, Jason Yates and his fiancee Ashley Parah and their daughter Celynn Yates of Sheldon, Chris LeGrand and his wife Sandra of Concord, NH, Moriah LeGrand of Jeffersonville, and Sarah LeGrand of Essex Jct. In his last year, his great-grandchild Celynn, brought him much joy and happiness. Don was pre-deceased by his siblings Bernard, Marcel, Lucienne (Jacques) and Eveline (Muncy) and his granddaughter Elizabeth LeGrand. Donald also leaves many loving and caring, life-long friends, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 12, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Minor Funeral Home in Milton, VT. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Thomas Church in Underhill Center, VT on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Underhill Center.
