South Hero

David Kenneth Pillsbury passed away November 10, 2023, at home in South Hero. Born on March 4, 1940, in Enosburg Center, David led an outgoing and meaningful life that touched the hearts of many. He was beloved by his family and friends and leaves behind many fun times for all of us that will be fondly remembered.

David attended the Mary Fletcher Hospital Radiological Technology program.  Here he met Marylyn Guild, of Essex Junction.   The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 inspired them both to get married on an expedited basis which has since lasted 61 years together.

They both had great big city style careers going in the X-Ray department at Mt Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. for roughly 12 years, most of it on opposite day/night shifts.  Their beautiful ranch style home in the well-developed bedroom community of Salem, New Hampshire was 30 miles north on Interstate 93. David put over 180,000 miles on his blue 1969 Camero travelling to and from work. Once in Vermont, David worked nights at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Radiology for several years.

In early 1976, Marylyn’s father, Burton Guild, found the farm on Town Line Road for the bargain price of $15,000 and asked if they were interested. They both decided they had enough of the big city rat race and moved. While Marylyn worked during the week at Mt. Auburn and traveled to Vermont on weekends, David, with the help of family and friends, spent the summer working to remake the late 1700’s farmhouse and property for the much more fulfilling rural Vermont lifestyle they have enjoyed ever since.

It didn’t take long for David to become very active in the community, serving with both the South Hero Rescue and Fire Departments for many years.  He served as custodian and Deacon at the South Hero Congregational Church. He drove a school bus for many years, then became a driver for CIDER in Grand Isle County. If family, friends,  strangers needed a hand, David was always there to help.

In addition to Marylyn, David leaves behind his brother Mark Pillsbury and family in Florida, brother Seth Pillsbury and family in Virginia, brother-in-law Ron Blom and family in Florida, brother-in-law Edward Guild and family in Vermont, and brother-in law Burton Guild Jr. in Vermont. And we can’t forget their beloved cat, MeowMeow. David was also recently pre-deceased by his sister-in-law June Blom on October 23.

A memorial service will be held on November 25, 2023, at the Congregational Church of South Hero located at 24 South St, South Hero, VT 05486. The service will begin at 11:00 AM to celebrate David’s life and share memories with family and friends.  Also on Zoom for David Pillsbury Memorial Service
