Wildwood, FL/Colchester, VT - David Joseph Birchmore Sr, 74 transitioned to heaven to be with his sons in the evening hours of January 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David battled stage 4 cancer for 6 years with incredible grace and dignity.
David was born on August 24, 1946 in Burl. VT, the son of Wilfred and Dorothy Birchmore.
David is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dottie, along with his son Corey and wife Angela, and their 3 sons, Colton, Logan, and Jackson from GA. In addition, he leaves behind his son Nicholas and wife Allison, as well as his daughter Alexis. David was blessed with many grandchildren, Travis and wife April and their children, Austin, Nevaeh, Madison, and Abigail. Justin Birchmore. Heather and her children, Cameron, Jayden, Tyler, and Charlie. Danielle and her children, Elijah, Jaelyn, and Kylee. Ashley and her children, Rayana, Ariyah, and Ariana. He leaves behind his siblings and their spouses; Sandra, Joyce, Sharon, Judy, Shirley, and Paul, four brother in laws and their spouses. His best friend Wayne Reuschel, as well as his pretend daughter Fran, and many cousins and friends.
David and Dottie got married at the age of 15 in 1963 and David started work at The University of Vermont in 1962 mowing lawns. He advanced his position to become a Master Plumber, and became supervisor in the plumbing & heating shop at UVM. Not only was he a Master Plumber, but held many licenses and certifications, among which were gas, oil, and back-flow prevention. He was gifted with the capabilities to fix anything broken that appeared irreparable, even if he had to make the parts himself. He was dearly loved and highly respected by his many friends and co-workers.
David had a beautiful voice and made Conway Twitty & Elvis Presley proud. He won countless karaoke contests and received many standing ovations on our yearly cruises, especially when he sang Hello Darlin'. David was the type of person that always prepared for the future. With his analytical and perfectionist personality, he was a hard act to follow in every aspect of his life. David never went anywhere without making a new friend before he left, his friendliness and handsome smile was infectious to everyone he met. His greatest loves were camping, hunting, and his wife and grandbabies.
David was the epitome of a patriarch to the Birchmore family. In the last years of David's life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, so now we rest assured knowing he is in the loving arms of his creator in complete health and happiness with his sons David Jr. and Tony, who predeceased him.
David's service will be held at Minor Funeral Home in Milton VT on January 25th. Visiting hour will be on Monday, January 25th, from 2:00-4:00 with a service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
