Darryl Richard King, 69 of Conway, SC passed away peacefully Monday morning February 21, 2022. Darryl was born December 18, 1952, to Neil E. and Eileen B. King of Milton, VT., the third child of eventually 6. Darryl grew up in Milton, VT and graduated from Milton High School in 1970. Darryl was part of the Civil Air Patrol growing up. He loved the outdoors and loved to fish. In 1970 after graduation, he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War and was assigned to the Submarine Fleet on board the USS George C. Marshall, SSBN 654, a Ballistic Missile Nuclear Sub, in Bremerton, WA., where they traveled to VA, SC, NH, CT and onto Rota Spain, and many other locations. He was a sonar tech and operated the Rudder & Stern planes on the boat. After his military service, he returned to Vermont where he met his wife Cindy King and they had 2 children. He worked as a carpenter for a while advancing into the Mechanical Heating, Ventilation and Controls Industry. Darryl also was very engaged in his local Community Church in Burlington, where he volunteered in helping with projects and driving the transportation bus for kids going to Sunday school and other programs and loved doing that. Darryl worked for several years in this trade where eventually he started his own business of Consulting, Building Systems Analysis, Control Integrations and Project Management. This took him to the Washington, D.C Area where he continued his business working for firms such as IBM, BAE, United Technologies, United States Government Institutional sites such as, Dept. Of Defense, Pentagon, CIA, FBI, National Institute of Standards and Traceability, National Archives, The Gallaudet University, Smithsonian Museum Facilities, and many other institutions and corporations in the Washington D.C area up to his retirement as a Contractor. Finally retiring in 2018, and yearning for warmer weather, he moved from Gainesville, VA down to Conway, SC with his partner of many years Colleen Amra. He loved his music and being free in the sun. There they enjoyed the ocean breezes and other waterways in the area. Darryl loved his family and was always willing to take a trip to attend weddings, family reunions, graduations, and Birthdays, where he was usually was the life of the party! Darryl is survived by his cherished Daughter Sarah B. Lowell and her partner Jeremy of Burlington, VT 3 Grandchildren, Logan King, Lindsay and Emily Lowell of St. Albans. His son Darrell and his wife Dana of Milton, VT. Darryl is also survived by his siblings, Stuart and Sheryl King of Hutchinson Island, Florida, Brenda Stewart of So. Burlington, VT, Kevin King of NY, Stephen King of Belvidere, VT and Lisa and her husband Mike Leavitt of Colchester, VT. He has 13 beloved Nieces and Nephews, and a crazy number of cousins, whom he all adored. Darryl is pre-deceased by his Parents, his ex-wife Cindy, many uncles, aunts, cousins, and many close friends.
