Christine Anne “Chris” Canosa, 73, of South Burlington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026.

Born on January 14, 1953, Chris was the beloved daughter of Robert and Patricia Canosa. She dedicated her life to educating and advocating for students with special needs. A graduate of Huntington High School in 1970, Baldwin-Wallace College in 1974, and Long Island University in 1977, Chris spent 34 years as a Special Educator with Essex Town Schools. Throughout her career, she taught middle school students with social, emotional, and learning challenges. She retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her students and their families.

Chris found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan whose summers revolved around baseball. She loved the ocean, where she found peace listening to the waves and breathing in the salt air. She enjoyed getting lost in a good book, and was committed to staying active through regular workouts with her personal trainer, Nate.

Nothing brought Chris greater joy than the people she loved. She shared a special bond with her nephews, Casey and Colin, whose courage and resilience inspired her lifelong support of Cure SMA. Chris believed deeply in the organization’s mission and hoped for a future in which no family would have to endure the challenges of spinal muscular atrophy.

Chris is survived by her sister, Susan Canosa O’Neill, brother-in-law, Eugene O’Neill, of Milton, Vermont; her nephew, Casey O’Neill, of Milton, Vermont; her niece, Caitlin Tirri, of Charlottesville, VA; her nephew, Joseph Canosa (Brittnee) of Rochelle, VA and her great-nieces, Conley Kate, Stella Jo, and Millie; cousins Tiffaney Rosenstock and Kelly Polk and their families; and her cherished friends Christie, Judy, Lois, Margaret and Marta.

She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Patricia Canosa; her brother, Robert “Bobby” Canosa; and her adored nephew, Colin O’Neill.

Chris will be remembered for her fierce independence, gentle heart, generous spirit, quiet strength, unwavering loyalty—and for never giving up on the Red Sox. She touched countless lives through her teaching, her friendships, and the love she freely shared. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, former students, colleagues, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday August 13th, 2026 from 4:00PM- 6:00PM at Minor Funeral and Cremation Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cure SMA, in honor of Chris’s lifelong love and support for children and families affected by spinal muscular atrophy.
