Charles Whitney Hanson

November 9, 1941 — May 30, 2025

Charles Whitney Hanson, better known as Charlie, died unexpectedly at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont in the early morning hours of May 30th 2025. Charlie was born in Bangor Maine on November 9, 1941 to parents Whitney and Lucinda Hanson.

Charlie enjoyed a long career as an electrical engineer with stints as a Field Engineer with Sylvania with assignments in Massachusetts, California, Missouri, North and South Dakota, and Long Island as a Product Engineer at Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland, Maine and as a Staff Engineer at several IBM locations, finally retiring from Essex Junction, Vermont facility.

While in Highschool, Charlie was inspired by his two shop teachers, Fred Bean and Jerry Burns, to study for and pass his FCC Ham Radio license examination and was issued his officil call sign K1HRK. He designed and built his own equipment and converted some surplus military radios to use on the air.

Charlie was a man who believed in the importance of family and imparting life skills to the next generation. He took great joy in teaching his children how to change tires and oil on a car, ensuring they were well-equipped for life's challenges. He fostered their love of the outdoors by teaching them how to swim, fish, and work with wood. He ignited in them a passion for camping and gardening activities that provided opportunities for family bonding and a deep appreciation for nature.

He is fondly remembered for his devotion to his beloved pets, including dogs Blizzard, Weston, and Jasmine, as well as cats Tiger and Starlight. His relationship with these animals was a testament to his nurturing character and love for all living beings.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Mary Hanson of 35 years, his children, Miranda Thayer, Whitney Hanson, and William Hanson, as well as stepchildren Amie Korbanek, and Marvin Seaman and his many grandchildren, including Thomas, Bella, Roxanne Charlize, Zephyer, Baeden, Brett, Brendan, Alden, Odeya, Heather, Melissa, Rachel, Rebecca, Colin, Cecilia, and Araya. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Nancy Walsh/Drake and Ruth Walsh/Cole.

He is preceded in death by his parents Whitney and Lucinda Hanson brothers Earl Walsh, Richard Walsh, Ralph "Denny" Walsh, and Morris Walsh, alongside sisters Elanor Walsh/Cross and Nina Walsh/Bowden. The memories of Charles W. Hanson will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, family values, and passion for life will inspire future generations.
