Chad Michael Hendy, 54, passed away on June 6, 2026, following a long illness. Born in Burlington, on September 1, 1971, to Michael and Barbara (Dalton) Hendy, Chad was an avid fisherman. Though he did not attend church, Chad believed in God and admired all of God’s creatures, even befriending a chipmunk who visited him on his porch. Chad was a caring, loving man, though he could struggle to express his love at times. He wasn’t perfect but tried very hard to make amends for mistakes he had made in the past. Chad was a casualty of the opioid explosion here in rural Vermont, turning to pills, drugs, and empty promises in attempts to find peace. May God rest his soul, and may Chad rest in the peace he sought but never quite found in life. Chad will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul, who would give you his last dollar, even if that dollar was all he had left. He was very giving and willing to share everything, with the only exception being his cereal.
Chad is remembered through his two sons, Dustin Hendy and Chad (Hendy) Billings, who he loved dearly; his grandkids, Destiny Hendy, 16, Wyatt Hendy, 8, Raelynn Hendy, 4, and Hayden Ioana, 14, who he adored; his brother Gregory L. Hendy and wife Colleen and their kids Megan and Lauren Hendy of Colorado; aunts Carolyn Gillespie, Martha Dalton, and Linda Dalton, all of West Virginia; as well as many cousins in Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. Chad is predeceased by both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
