Obituary of Carl A. Ward



Ormond Beach, FL/St. Albans, VT - Carl A. Ward Sr. died peacefully August 12, 2017 surrounded by family at his son's home in Fort Mill, SC following a brief illness. Carl was born in Burlington on June 8, 1940 to the late Howard and Theresa (Fournier) Ward. Carl married the love of his life, Shirley Basiliere at St. Joseph's Church in Burlington on July 9, 1960.

Carl graduated from Burlington High School and enjoyed a long career with General Dynamics (GE) until his retirement in 1998. After retirement Carl and Shirley spent their time between their home in Ormond Beach, FL and their summer camp in St. Albans, VT.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years and their two children; Carl Jr and his wife Sherry (Nash) of South Carolina and Theresa Ward-Smeall and her husband Don of Ottawa Canada. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were a constant joy during his battle over the recent months; Heather Ward and her daughter Kinsley, Corey Robert and his children; Peyton and Lucas, Chelsea Ward, her fianc Justin (Hinson) and their children; Kayden, Ashton and Khloe.

Carl leaves behind his brother Leonard of Essex Junction, VT and many sister and brother-in-law's, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl was predeceased by his granddaughters; Michelle and Nicole Robert, siblings; Howard, Robert, Donald and Charlene Norris.

The family would like to extend special thanks to sister-in-law Mary Moore and her husband, Chris who provided a great deal of support to Carl during his illness along with his team of Hospice caregivers.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 4-8 pm in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 17th at 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Albans, VT. A celebration and time for remembrances will be held after the Mass at the church hall. There will be no burial at this time.
