Betty B. Thompson

September 5, 1935 — April 26, 2021

Betty B. Thompson went to meet her maker on April 26, 2021. She was born on September 5,1935 in Burlington, VT and was the daughter of Kermit and Eunice (Shackett) Bushey.

Betty graduated as Valedictorian from Milton High School in 1953. She married Allen Thompson of Milton, VT in 1955 and had four kids: Perry M., Kathy A., Kelly A., and David A.. She was a lifetime member of the Sodality Youth Organization. She had a love for music. She sang in the St. Anne's church choir in her younger years. She was an accomplished saxophone player and was “drafted" into the Milton High School band while only in the fifth grade. In her youth, her musical talents were displayed performing in several dance bands including "The 3 Hits and a Miss" and "The Nights of Melody". She played in dance bands until 1960.

Betty was very active in local politics. She was a Lister, Justice of the Peace, served as chairperson on the Board of Civil Authority, and was the secretary for the town Planning Commission. She served on the Select Board for several years. Betty worked at General Electric for one year and then went to work as a lab technician at Fonda Container in St. Albans.  In 1959 she quit work to raise a family. She worked as a salesperson for Fuller Brush when her kids were in school. Once her children were older she went to work as a buyer at the Digital Equipment Corporation. She worked there until her retirement. She achieved all of these accomplishments while raising her 4 children. In retirement she was an active member of the town and was a member of the Red Hats, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and Arrowhead Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed line dancing with her friends. Betty volunteered to work in most local elections. She was an avid gardener and could always be seen working in her yard. 

Betty was a devoted caretaker for both of her parents until their deaths. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was actively involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. She was the center of the family and hosted many of the family gatherings. Betty had a big heart and was always there for her family, friends, and neighbors.

Betty is survived by: her children, Perry Thompson (wife Karen) of Milton, Kelly Lambert of Milton, and David Thompson of Milton; 5 grandchildren, Michaela and Deanna Lambert, Joshua (wife Christie),Talia and Jessie Germain, and one great grandchild Sophie Kate Germain; two brothers, James Bushey of Florida (wife Carol, children Jeffery, Jennifer, Jocelyn) and Michael Bushey of Maine (wife JoAnne, child Whitney).

Betty was predeceased by her parents Kermit and Eunice Bushey, husband Allen Thompson, and her daughter Kathy Germain.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Minor funeral home in Milton on Saturday May 1, 2021 between 10am and 12:30pm. COVID restrictions will apply. A funeral service will be held privately with the burial in St. Ann Cemetery. www.minorfh.com
