Colchester - Bernard H. Martin, 87, of Colchester passed away peacefully at UVM Medical Center Sunday October 26, 2025
He was born in Bristol, Connecticut on December 9, 1937, the son of Lester and Winifred (Seeley) Martin. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosemarie (Faubert) Martin.
Bernard served in the US Army for three years as an Armor Crewman and was stationed in Germany where he operated an armored tank. He was very proud of his military service and told many entertaining stories of his time in the service. After the service he became a rough carpenter by trade and was in the Carpenters Union. He also worked for F.W. Whitcomb. After retiring he worked for Saint Stephens Church in Winooski as a custodian and grounds keeper for many years. He loved helping others fix cars, machinery and any home projects. He will always be remembered for his hard work and dedication to all jobs he performed.
He is survived by one sister Frances Jones, his two sons, James Martin of Colchester, and Paul L. Martin of Colchester, two grandsons, Paul Martin of Texas and Ben Martin of Colchester, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Winnie Thibeault, Blanche Rich, Ruby Benoit, Lester Martin, Leonard Martin, Jeannette Martin, and Gene Dumas.
Bernard enjoyed music and dancing and had many parties at his home for all to gather and have a good time. He was fun loving, witty and caring to everyone. He spent most of his time outside loving the sounds, colors and fresh air. He will be greatly missed by all who were touched by his life.
A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester, Vermont, on November 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM followed by procession to Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery for interment.
