Audrey May (Cardinal) Ward, 78, known as "Nanny", passed due to surgery complications on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Nanny was born on June 8th, 1942 to Armond and Muriel (Greenia) Cardinal in Burlington, VT. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1960 and has worked as a high school clerk, farmer, and nannying. Nanny met the love of her life Paul (Papa) Ward, working at R.J. Martell's Plumbing & Heating and they married on July 30th 1966. Nanny's hobbies included baking, kniting, bird watching, crossword puzzles and beating anyone at Scrabble who dared to play against her. Nanny was a breast cancer survivor. Nanny was predeceased by Papa in August 2020. Nanny is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Mitchell and her husband Joshua of Stafford VA; Katherine Bourdeau and her husband John of Enosburg. Nanny is survived by her six grandchildren; Ashley (Bourdeau) MacDonald and her husband Hayden, Megan Mitchell, JP Bourdeau, Jacob Mitchell, Mitchell Bourdeau and Zachary Bourdeau. Nanny was predeceased by her eldest sister Wanda and is survived by her three sisters Beverly Rounds, Roberta Vigneau, and Debra Cardinal. Nanny's family would like to acknowledge the Carriage House for their compassion and the phenomenal care the Northwestern Medical Center nursing staff provided to Nanny during her final days.
