SOUTH BURLINGTON - Arnold Eaton Furness, 98, of South Burlington, VT passed on October 26, 2023.
He was born in Fair Haven, VT on April 21, 1925, the son of the late Gerald and Lucy (Eaton) Furness. Following U.S. Navy service during World War II, he married Mary Josephine Gabriele on March 25, 1951 in Fair Haven, VT. During retirement, he performed with the local “Wild Boomers” Boom-Ba band and was a long-time volunteer for the local Age Well (formerly CVAA) Community Meals & Restaurant Ticket Program.
Arnold is survived by his son, Steven A. Furness, of Georgia, VT; grandson, Steven J. Furness and wife Shannon, of Monroe, NC; granddaughter, Hannah Furness Kida and husband Shunjiro Clifford, of Santa Fe, NM; great-grandsons, Keegan Furness, Paxton Furness, Asher Furness, and Royce Furness, of Monroe, NC; brother-in-law, Louis Raymond Gabriele and wife Joan, of Rutland, VT; sister-in-law, Eva Bogue, of Williston, VT; many nephews and nieces; and many dear friends.
Arnold is predeceased by his devoted wife, Mary Josephine; parents; sisters, Marjorie Furness, Luetta Gordy and husband George, and Cora Nassivera and husband Thomas; father-in-law, Luigi Gabriele and wife Maria; brothers-in-law, Antonio Gabriele and wife Helen and George N. Bogue; sisters-in-law, Louise Gabriele, Jeannette Ranney and husband Philip, and Emilie Henk and husband Robert; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Furness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 11 am at St. John Vianney Church in South Burlington, VT with interment to follow at the adjacent Resurrection Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Arnold’s memory may be made to the local Age Well or to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
