Ann Louise Blackwell Clark passed away at her home in Milton, Vermont on June 10, 2025, following a long battle with cancer and dementia. Ann was born in Waterville, Maine on September 2, 1944 to Catherine Weeks Blackwell and Ruel J. Blackwell. She attended elementary school in Fairfield, Maine, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1962. She received her Batchelor of Arts degree in English and History from the University of Maine in Orono in 1966. She married her husband of nearly 59 years, Horace W. Clark, in 1966 and settled with him in Fishkill, New York. She taught English at Poughkeepsie High School (NY) for three years, before the couple moved to Milton, Vermont, where she taught classes in Adult Basic Education. She also taught courses in Incident Command Management to public safety officials
She is survived by her husband Horace W. Clark of Milton, Vermont, daughters Sarah Marie Clark and her husband Rick Barton, of Milton, Vermont and Deborah Lea Clark Backman, and her husband Will Backman, of Augusta, Maine, and by her sister Jane Thompson of Augusta, Maine, Grand Children Ethan Swan of Titusville, Florida, Eli Orth and Anabelle Orth of Augusta Maine.
Ann is predeceased by her parents Catherine Weeks Blackwell and Ruel J. Blackwell, and by her maternal grandparents Harold and Emily Weeks of Augusta, Maine.
Ann was very active in community activities including:
Girl Scouts leadership, Co-coaching her girls’ softball team, serving as president of the Milton Women’s Club, serving as Chairperson of the Milton Parade Committee, editing an update to the Milton Town History booklet.
Ann attended private pilot ground school with Husband Horace, and passed her FAA private pilot written exam, but never took any flying lessons.
She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a civilian auxiliary to the U.S. Airforce, ultimately achieving the rank of Colonel and serving as the Vermont State Wing Commander for Civil Air Patrol.
Ann passed her amateur radio (HAM) license and was issued the call sign N1CQC by the FCC.
She served as the business manager for the family business, Clark Communication Electronics.
Ann enjoyed Gardening, Cooking, Sewing, and Photography. Ann found great joy in doing things with her grandchildren. She enjoyed marketing our garden products at the Milton Farmers Markets.
She was an avid follower of the political news.
No formal viewing or funeral is planned, but a Celebration of Life gathering, to Honor Ann, will be held in Sarah Clark’s back yard on Saturday July 26 from 2 to 6 PM at 21 Mackey Street in Milton, Vermont. Family and friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to The American Cancer Society in honor of Ann.
